Browser DevTools

Browser DevTools are development tools built into web browsers for inspecting, debugging and measuring web pages.

Browser DevTools help developers see what a website actually sends to the browser. Panels commonly expose HTML elements, applied CSS, console messages, network requests and performance traces. They are useful when a button is not responding, an image fails to load or a page behaves differently on a slow connection.

For example, Chrome DevTools' Network panel can show requested resources, their response status, timing, headers and payloads. The Elements and Styles views help identify the rule that controls an unexpected margin, while the Performance panel can aid diagnosis of expensive rendering or script tasks. These observations are local diagnostics, not proof that every visitor experiences the same performance.

A practical debugging session starts by reproducing the issue, preserving relevant logs and testing on representative devices. Be careful when exporting network data: request bodies and headers may contain sensitive information. DevTools do not replace server-side monitoring, user testing or a full security assessment. The term refers to diagnostic tools, not the browser itself.
