Blog Excerpt

A blog excerpt is a short preview of an article, commonly displayed on a blog index, category page, or related-content section. Its purpose is to help readers decide whether to open the full post. For example, a cleaning business could summarize an article about maintaining tile between professional visits. An excerpt is not the full article and is not identical to a meta description, which is a separate page-level HTML field that search engines may or may not use. Good excerpts communicate the article's subject without exaggerating its promise. They should remain accurate when the full article changes and make sense next to the article title.
