Backlink

A backlink is a link on another website that points to a page on yours. A local community organization's directory might link to a handyman company that participates in a neighborhood project. Such links can send interested visitors and help search engines discover pages; links may also be considered among search ranking signals. Not all backlinks carry the same value, however, and a high count alone says little about quality. Some business mentions are citations without clickable links. Buying manipulative link packages or arranging irrelevant links solely to influence rankings can violate search engine policies. A more durable approach is to publish information people have a legitimate reason to reference.
