Atomic Design Methodology

Atomic Design is a methodology for organizing interface systems into atoms, molecules, organisms, templates, and completed pages.

Atomic Design is Brad Frost's way of describing how smaller interface parts can be assembled into larger, reusable experiences. Atoms are basic elements such as labels or buttons. Molecules combine these into simple units, such as a search form. Organisms group units into substantial sections, templates arrange the page structure, and pages show that structure with real or representative content.

The value is consistency and clarity of ownership rather than a strict folder hierarchy every team must copy. A designer can review the appearance of a button once, and then verify how it behaves inside a booking form and across several pages. Developers can pair this approach with a component library, design tokens, testing, and documentation. Teams may use different names or component boundaries as long as the shared system is understood.

Atomic Design is narrower than custom website design as a whole: it explains how to organize and test the relationship between components and complete page experiences, not how to choose a brand strategy or hosting stack.
