Address Validation
Address validation checks whether a submitted postal address is complete, plausibly correct, and formatted for its intended use.
Address validation checks a customer's entered location against address reference information and formatting rules. A service may identify missing address components, suggest a standardized version, or flag information that could make delivery or a visit difficult. Validation can be important for appointment booking, deliveries, invoices, and customer records where a mistyped unit number or postal code causes failed service.
Address validation is not the same as geocoding. Geocoding tries to translate location information into coordinates; validation evaluates the address's components and can suggest corrections. Google Maps Platform, for example, offers an Address Validation API with regional coverage and optional U.S. postal-standard functionality.
Validation does not guarantee that a customer can be reached at a property, that a gate code is correct, or that every location exists in a provider's reference data. Ask the customer to confirm ambiguous suggestions and handle address information according to applicable privacy requirements.
