404 Error Page

A 404 error page appears when a server cannot find a resource at the requested URL.

A 404 error page appears when a server cannot find a resource at the requested URL. The problem might come from an old link, a typing mistake, or a page that has been removed. A useful not-found page explains what happened in plain language and offers a path back to working pages, such as services or contact information. The server should return an actual HTTP 404 status for missing content rather than showing a normal success status with a not-found message. When a page has moved permanently and a relevant replacement exists, a redirect may be more appropriate. Sending every missing URL to the homepage can confuse visitors.
